Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between cemental tear and trauma.

Methods: In this study, 65 patients were diagnosed as cemental tear and their 71 teeth being confirmed by direct inspection or radiographic examination were included. For each case, demographic data, dental history, clinical and radiographic findings were recorded and analyzed.

Results: There was no significant difference by sex, and those over the age of 60 accounted for 70.8%. More than half were found on incisors(53.5%), with identifiable traumatic injuries at a rate of 8.5% and occlusal trauma at 33.8%. The highest rate was 98.6% with periodontal disease.

Conclusions: Although there is still no clear explanation for the cause of cemental tear, in many cases we were able to find clues associated with traumatic injury and occlusal trauma. However, due to various limitations, there is still shortage of studies on the causes and progression of cemental tear, and more cases need to be studied.
